The Sonification Project

The idea of this project is to sonify (render into sound) various visual media. Much in the same way you might use a sampler to shape found sound, I’m using various software to sample visual data and translate that into sound. I then use that as source material to further shape into finished compositions.

To kick off this project I’m collaborating with painter (and old grade school pal) Brian Frink, using his painting as a source for sound-pieces that accompany the paintings. All sounds were 100% derived from the visual input of his paintings – using color, intensity, positive and negative space, etc and translating that to variation in the sound.

Stay tuned for upcoming performance/exhibition dates mid 2021 . . .
